Urtekram Beauty Certifications

All our beauty products are labeled according to vegan association and certified by Ecocert Greenlife according to Cosmos Organic standards, an international certification for cosmetics set by an international independent board of the COSMOS association members and certified by approved certifying bodies.

Vegan society

The Vegan Society ensures that the product and its manufacturing process are free from animal products, by-products, and derivatives. It also guarantees that the product has not been tested on animals and does not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Allergy Certified

We also have ranges that are labeled with Allergy Certified (meaning that known sensitizers and skin irritating ingredients are used only at low concentrations proved by independent scientists not to provoke allergies or not used at all). And Fair Trade (Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade). We know how difficult it can be to navigate the wealth of all brands and certificates.

Are you curious about what the different labels cover, or do you want to learn more? Below we have gathered the various certifications, we use and that we think are important to know. Click on each tag to read more.

The COSMOS-standard

The COSMOS-standard sets requirements for organic and natural cosmetics. It covers ingredient sourcing and processing, product composition, manufacturing, packaging, environmental management, labelling and communication.

The standard promotes organic agriculture, consideration for biodiversity, responsible use of natural resources and the application of green chemistry principles.

What does COSMOS ORGANIC mean?

To qualify for COSMOS ORGANIC certification, a product must meet the standard’s requirements, including these key rules on organic content:

  • At least 95% of its physically processed agro-ingredients must be organic.

  • At least 20% of the total product must be organic.

  • A lower minimum of 10% applies to rinse-off products, non-emulsified water-based products, and products containing at least 80% minerals or ingredients of mineral origin.

Water and minerals cannot be counted as organic. The percentage of organic ingredients is therefore different from the percentage of ingredients of natural origin.

COSMOS ORGANIC and COSMOS NATURAL are distinct certifications. COSMOS NATURAL does not require a minimum percentage of organic ingredients.
